When does Co-School Puerto Vallarta run?
The program runs in the fall semester. Please see the ‘Dates and Costs’ section for more details.
When is the application period for the program?
The application dates are provided in the ‘Dates and Costs’ section. Applicants who apply before the early entry deadline will be interviewed and accepted on a rolling basis.
How much does the program cost?
For the cost of the program, please refer to the above section ‘dates and costs’.
Will I receive academic credit for participating in the program?
Students will not earn course credit directly through Co-School Vallarta, and must schedule all classes online through their current university, or another university offering transferable online credits.
What will I be doing while in Puerto Vallarta?
The program is made up of three core components, study abroad, co-living, and travel. While in Mexico, participants will study Spanish language, have unlimited access to the the downtown co-working space, and work with their housemates to design their own field excursions. Participants will have the opportunity to travel independently on the weekends, as well as the freedom to make the most of their own international experiences however they see fit.
What is the cost of living and food costs?
Rent at the co-living home is included in the program cost—there will be an equipped kitchen in the home, but regular meals are not included. Food prices in Mexico are cheaper than in the United States and Canada on average—because Puerto Vallarta is a tourist destination, there are certainly expensive restaurants around, but also plenty of affordable local cuisine, and lots of access to food shopping, from fresh farmers markets and grocery supermarkets.
What type of support can I expect in Mexico?
Participants will be required to participate in pre-departure remote trainings. While in Mexico, Insight will have in-house managers present to assist in delivering program facilitation. In addition, the staff includes in-country Director Miguel Guerrero at Vallarta Co-Work, where students will spend most of their time working, and who will assist in providing location-specific support services through his deep knowledge of all things local.
Where will I live?
We rent out local co-living homes where the entire cohort, along with our facilitators, live throughout the program. Participants can expect to share a room with a roommate of the same gender. The units are modern, furnished, and conveniently located in safe and secure neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta.
Located along the Pacific Ocean’s Bahía Banderas in the Mexican State of Jalisco, Puerto Vallarta is a bustling resort town home to ~250,000 people. Known for being an extremely friendly city, “PV” is already full of student life—the home to a branch campus of the Mexico’s University of Guadalajara, a booming tourism industry, and an authentic culture of arts and cuisines.
