When does your Thiland Program run?
Insight’s Thailand program runs three times a year – Winter/Spring, Summer and Fall – for 12 weeks at a time. The specific dates for each term is listed on the program webpage.
Is there an academic component?
The academic component of the Thailand program is structured differently from our Uganda and Fiji programs. This program is open to not only undergraduate students, but also to recent graduates, Master’s students, or professionals seeking a change of pace. Instead of formal lectures at a university, this program offers weekly Thai language lessons. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of each participant to reach out to their academic advisors and confirm whether the language course can and will transfer back for credits at their home university.
Where will I intern during my program?
The internship component of the program is designed to give participants an opportunity to develop valuable skills whilst working within a sector that is of interest to them. Once an applicant is admitted into the Thailand program, we work with them to determine the most suitable internship placement. We match students with one of our partner organizations by considering a variety of factors, and strive to only arrange placements that will result in a mutually beneficial relationship between the intern and their internship host.
What type of support can I expect in-country?
We have a Program Director that lives in Chiang Mai and oversees the program. The in-country staff members(s) live in close proximity to the program residence.
What will my life abroad be like?
The pace of life in Chiang Mai can be very different from what you’re used to. Located in the north of Thailand, Chiang Mai is a popular destination among expats who seek a life of balance and adventure. While living in Chiang Mai, your week will consist of interning and attending language lessons. Additionally, participants will be provided with opportunities to partake in culturally immersive activities. The city has a number of attractions within walking distance of one another. Participants are also likely to spend time exploring new restaurants and nightlife hotspots. Weekends and the weeklong break are used to venture out of the city and visit nearby tourist destinations – Pai in the north and the infamous islands in the south are examples.
Where will I live?
