When do your University Programs run?
Our programs run three times a year – Winter/Spring, Summer and Fall – for 12 weeks long. The dates for each respective term will be listed in the ‘Dates and Costs’ section.
When is the application period for your programs?
The application dates are provided in the ‘Dates and Costs’ section.
Will I receive academic credit for participating in the program?
The academic component of the program is structured so that participating students are able to earn credits while participating in the program. Each participating student is automatically enrolled in two courses at either Makerere University in Kampala, or at Fiji National University in Suva. Once admitted into the program, we will assist you with submitting the paperwork needed to apply for the transfer of credits. Ultimately, the onus is on each student to reach out to their academic advisors to confirm that the courses can and will transfer back to their home university.
Where will I intern during my program?
The internship component of the program is designed to give participants an opportunity to develop valuable skills whilst working within a sector that is of interest to them. Once an applicant is admitted into a program, we work with them to determine the most suitable internship placement. We match students with one of our over 70 partner organizations by considering a variety of factors and strive to only arrange placements that will result in a mutually beneficial relationship between the intern and their internship host.
What type of support can I expect in-country?
We always have a Program Director living in-country, overseeing your program. The in-country staff will live within 5-10 minutes of your residence.
What will my life abroad be like?
The pace of life in in both Kampala and Suva can be very different from what you’re used to. Kampala is a vibrant and congested city in transition, offering a diverse array of experiences. Suva is a quaint city, where the beauty of the tropics is met with a slower paced island lifestyle. While living in either city during the program, your week will consist of interning on Mondays through Thursdays, and going to classes on Fridays. Additionally, participants often spend time checking out the restaurants, movie theatres and nightlife hotspots. On weekends students will venture out of the city and travel to nearby tourist destinations.
Where will I live?
Our program participants are housed in fully furnished apartments or guest houses, that are centrally located and are in close proximity to restaurants, grocery stores and more.
I have participated in your University program. How can I get a second copy of my official transcript?
You can submit a request for additional copies of your transcript via your Program Director. Please note that you will need to pay a $50 USD administrative fee for each additional transcript copy, plus the cost of the shipping via DHL (in the event that you need the documents sent to an academic institution or to your home).
