When does your SID Fiji Program run?
The SID Fiji runs three times a year – Winter/Spring, Summer and Fall – for 12 weeks at a time. The specific dates for each term is listed on the program webpage.
Will I receive academic credit for participating in the program?
The academic component of the SID Fiji is structured so that students are able to earn credits while participating in the program. Each participant is automatically enrolled in two courses at Fiji National University. Once admitted into the program, we will remind you to submit the paperwork needed to apply for the transfer of credits (and support where necessary) through your university. Ultimately, it is the responsibility of each participating student to reach out to their academic advisors and confirm that the courses can and will transfer back to their home university.
Where will I intern during my program?
The internship component of the program is designed to give participants an opportunity to develop valuable skills whilst working within a sector that is of interest to them. Once an applicant is admitted into the SID Fiji, we work with them to determine the most suitable internship placement. We match students with one of our over 20 partner organizations by considering a variety of factors, and strive to only arrange placements that will result in a mutually beneficial relationship between the intern and their internship host.
What type of support can I expect in-country?
We have a Program Director that lives in Suva and oversees the program. The in-country staff members(s) live in close proximity to the program residence.
What will my life abroad be like?
The pace of life in Suva can be very different from what you’re used to. Though it is Fiji’s capital, Suva is a quaint city, where the beauty of the tropics meets a slow-paced urban lifestyle. While living in Suva, your week will consist of interning and attending lectures. Additionally, participants will spend time exploring new restaurants, cultural attractions, and nightlife hotspots. Weekends and the weeklong break are used to venture out of the city and visit nearby tourist destinations – the main island of Viti Levu has a number of gorgeous beaches and hiking spots. The smaller surrounding islands can also be visited by boat or seaplane.
Where will I live?
Our program participants are accommodated in a fully-furnished guest house that is centrally-located, and is in close proximity to restaurants, grocery stores and more.
I have participated in your University program. How can I get a second copy of my official transcript?
You can submit a request for additional copies of your transcript via the Program Director of SID Fiji. Please note that you will need to pay a $50 USD administrative fee for each additional transcript copy, plus the cost of the shipping via DHL (in the event that you need the documents sent to an academic institution or to your home).
