May 23 – May 31, 2026
Ireland has a long history shaped by identity, faith, migration, and conflict. Today, communities are still working to bridge divides, preserve culture, and imagine a shared future. On this journey, you’ll walk through historic sites, join workshops on language and art, and hear firsthand from people who lived through conflict. You’ll explore how peace is created—and ask yourself: Does the absence of conflict mean the presence of peace?
Considerations: Peace and conflict discussions may reference global conflicts, which could be sensitive for some students.
Board your evening flight from Los Angeles to Dublin and get ready to explore Ireland’s history, culture, and questions of peace.
Arrive in Dublin and settle into your hotel. After a welcome dinner and program overview, dive straight into Irish culture with a traditional music and dance session.
Take a guided walking tour of Dublin, visiting St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Dublin Castle, and the General Post Office. Visit EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum to explore how migration shaped Ireland’s global story and national identity.
Join a Gaelic language workshop at Gael Linn to understand how language preserves culture and pride. In the afternoon, head to Na Fianna GAA Club to play traditional Gaelic games like hurling and Gaelic football, connecting sport to identity and belonging.
Travel to Armagh to visit both St. Patrick’s Catholic Cathedral and the Church of Ireland Cathedral. Engage in an interfaith dialogue with local leaders and students about the role of religion in shaping communities. At Aonagh Mhacha Irish Language Centre, collaborate with the Armagh Rhymers in a participatory workshop and performance that shows how music and storytelling can cross divides. End the day in Belfast.
Walk through West Belfast to see murals, memorial gardens, and hear from former participants in the conflict, including Michael Culbert. Then cross to East Belfast for another perspective with William Mitchell and ACT (Action for Community Transformation). Visit the Peace Wall and explore how memories of conflict remain visible in daily life.
Take a day trip to Derry for a walking tour of the Guildhall, city walls, and murals. Visit the Peace Museum and join a discussion on the Good Friday Agreement with people who helped shape it, reflecting on how peace agreements change identity and politics.
Meet local youth in Belfast to learn about efforts in social integration and dialogue. At 2 Royal Avenue, explore how a former grocery store was transformed into a creative hub that uses art to heal divides. Try copper craft at a Donegal workshop and, if the schedule allows, cheer at a live Gaelic football game.
Travel back to Dublin and board your flight to Los Angeles, bringing home new perspectives on conflict, peace, and what it means to belong.
