THE PEARL OF AFRICA

The Semester in Development – Uganda hosts cohorts of students from around the world who are looking to truly challenge norms, push boundaries and explore critical global issues, all while developing essential skills and meaningful work experiences. This program is well-suited for those looking to immerse themselves in a vibrant culture while learning what it takes to truly collaborate in our globalized world. As a participant in the Semester in Development, you will meet, interact, and learn from local change-makers, all while living in Kampala, Uganda’s emerging capital city.

How it works:

Our programming is straightforward. We host students in our safe and centrally located guest house in Kampala (Uganda’s capital) while they 1) intern with a locally-led organization, 2) take classes and earn transferable credits at Makerere University, and 3) explore Uganda’s stunning landscapes and vibrant cultures.

The program runs for 12 weeks, is available during winter/spring, summer and fall terms, and is open to current students of all backgrounds.

What Students Are saying

The practical knowledge that I have attained from studying, working, and living
in Uganda, a country so different from my own, has become invaluable in
shaping how I perceive my studies and future aspirations.

Although cliché, I know that this unique experience has already had and will have
a lasting, positive impact on my life and cannot be matched by anything else
that I have accomplished over the past four years of my undergraduate studies.
