Fees and Finances

Insight believes in providing a program that is of the best possible value to students who are committed to furthering their knowledge and comprehension of global issues through experiential learning. We understand that spending a semester abroad is a big decision and we want our students to have a full grasp on all the financial aspects of the Semester in Development. 

Accepted participants will be asked to confirm their spot in one of our Semester Abroad programs by placing their deposit within 10 days of receiving their official letter of acceptance. We have two available payment options for accepted applicants.

Deposit Plan

Students that opt-in to this plan will be asked to pay an initial $1000 USD deposit within 10 days of their acceptance letter. From there, the remaining payments are split into two larger fees dependent on which semester and location you are attending with us. These subsequent payments are due 4 months and 2 months before your departure. Second payments are typically $2500 USD, while the third covers the remaining balance owing.

Monthly Plan

Students that opt-in to this plan commit to paying for the program through a recurring charge that is due on the 1st of each month until their departure. The monthly charge will be dependent on the date of your acceptance and the semester and location which you are attending with us. Please note that a credit card is mandatory to opt-in to the monthly plan.

Payments can be received via all major credit cards, EFT or wire transfers, and in Canada (only), can also be made via e-transfer

Deposits must be arranged with our team shortly after your acceptance to ensure your place in the program is held – Please note that as the world returns to travel in 2022, spots will be  limited

What's Included

In-Country Support

Regardless of which location you choose, the Semester in Development includes in-country staff support throughout the entirety of the program. A member of our team lives close by and will be there to arrange and liaise your internship, oversee program safety, facilitate educational sessions, organize social and reflective developmental activities and provide individuals with ongoing personal support.

Tuition and Academic Fees

Insight’s Semester abroad programs includes an advanced for-credit academic component delivered by experienced professors. While abroad, you will learn about location-relevant subjects from a new perspective with the added benefit of a small class size. Upon completion of the semester, your official transcripts will be delivered directly to your home university in order to confirm your credits. All of this is included in your total program cost. All students who have completed the program have successfully earned two courses worth of transfer credit upon returning home.

Internship Coordination

Finding an internship placement that is right for you, one that allows you to develop transferable skills and learn about social and global issues relevant to your interests, is a key focus for us. Through a collaborative and personalized process we will work with you to pair you with a suitable internship partner to ensure your time spent abroad is not only enjoyable but eye-opening as well. Upon completion of your internship, you will be equipped with in-demand skills and experiences employers today are looking for.

Orientation and Airport Pick-Up

We want you to feel comfortable, safe and excited as soon as you arrive in-country to begin your Semester Abroad with Insight. You’ll be picked up from the airport and taken directly to your new home by one of our trusted drivers where you will then be greeted by our in-country staff. We’ll help you settle in and get you all set up for the remainder of your program while also running a number of fun activities to introduce you to the city and your fellow cohort members.

Accommodation

Participants will be provided with safe and secure accommodations in cohort only housing during their entire stay. You will have access to a full kitchen, laundry, cleaning services and included utilities. Housing is centrally located in each of our locations to ensure that students are close to their internships and can easily access markets, restaurants, gyms and more!

Insurance

Students registering for Insight semester abroad programs are automatically covered under our included Cancel For Any Reason insurance program. Insight has partnered with leading global insurers to reduce and minimize any financial risks related to your registration in one of our programs. Our CFAR policy allows students to cancel their participation in any one of our programs up to 10 days prior to departure, for any reason including the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you cancel for a reason that is considered insurable, ie. medical condition, loss of job or death in the family, your cancellation insurance covers 100% of your program fees paid to Insight.

If you cancel for any other reason, including but not limited to concerns regarding COVID-19, your cancellation insurance may cover up to 75% of your program fees paid to Insight.

Insight began including this insurance package in mid-2020, and continues to do so at no additional cost to participants. This industry leading inclusion protects your investment, ensuring you can confidently register for one of our programs knowing your fees are protected.

During your registration process, our team will collect the necessary information from you so that insurance can be processed on your behalf.

In an attempt to expedite the insurance process, Insight will assist you in submitting your claim. Please speak with our team should you have any questions. Please note that you must withdraw from your program at least 10 days prior to departure.

Please note that the length of time it may take to receive an insurance reimbursement varies greatly. Due in large part to the COVID-19 pandemic, insurers are heavily backlogged and may take longer than normal to process your claim.  Insight is not responsible for the duration or length of time it may take for an insurance provider to complete your claim. We will do all that we can to support and expedite this process.

Deferring / Changing Your Program

Insight allows program participants to change their registration at their convenience. If you’re uncertain about traveling at this time, you can defer your program with us, at absolutely no cost, to any future program.

If at your desired time of travel you have concerns about the specific location you are registered for, you can switch your program location to one of our other programs, again at absolutely no cost to you.

This level of flexibility provides additional comforts for our students, giving them the freedom and flexibility without any penalties to adjust their travel plans.

Cancelling Your Participation

Should you wish to withdraw from your Insight program, rather than defer to a different or later program, please contact our office. Please note that in order to be eligible for cancellation insurance, you must cancel with us prior to 10 days ahead of your scheduled departure. Should a significant event occur within the 10-day period, please speak with our team so that we may assist you.

We recognize that sometimes unforeseen circumstances arise and you may need to cancel your participation. While this is unfortunate, we certainly understand, and we will do all that we can to assist you in withdrawing your participation.
