History & Culture

Croatian culture is shaped by a storied history that dates back nearly thirteen centuries. The country is a living museum filled with brilliant art and six World Heritage Sites. Its cities have witnessed monumental moments in history from the Ottoman Empire to the Bosnian War and Croatian accession to the European Union. Embark on a guided tour of the city’s majestic cathedral that rises from within the 1700-year-old walls of Dioclentian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Take a drive to the town of Pula, home to some of the best preserved Roman ruins outside of Italy. The main star of the ruins is the arena, the only Roman amphitheater in the world with a complete circle wall.

  • Partake in a truffle hunt. Embark on a true Istrian experience and find yourself in the forests of Motovun. Then learn how to prepare a meal with truffles.

  • Visit Plitvice Lakes National Park where Mother Nature has connected 16 lakes into one majestic fairy-tale that brings you back in time.

Sample Itinerary

  • Welcome to Croatia!
  • Welcome to the capital of Croatia! Explore how the history and culture of Zagreb combines with the modern everyday life of a city this big. Some of the main sights you will be exploring are Gradec and Kaptol, the medieval predecessors of Zagreb.
  • Embark on a true Istrian experience by partaking in  a truffle hunt. A short drive up north will take us to a truffle hunter’s house with decades of experience in this special activity. Soon enough, you will find yourself in the forests of Motovun, in the middle of the adventure of the truffle hunt. 

  • Partake in a miniature cooking class where we will be learning how to prepare a meal with truffles. Shortly after, our bus will take us to the town of Poreč where you can find a perfect spot to catch an ocean sunset.
  • First stop today, Roman legacy! Take a drive to the town of Pula, home to some of the best preserved Roman ruins outside of Italy. The main star of the ruins is the arena, the only Roman amphitheater in the world with a complete circle wall, one of Croatia’s architectural gems. It was built to hold 20,000 spectators and is still used today as an outdoor cinema.

  • Visit the picturesque coastal town of Rovinj. The old town is built on an island and has been connected with the mainland since the 18th century. There are narrow cobblestone streets and 22 islets surrounding the town where the friendly local community will ensure you feel welcome.
  • Travel to the coastal town of Zadar stopping at one of Croatia’s most famous national parks along the way. At Plitvice Lakes, Mother Nature has connected 16 lakes into one majestic fairy-tale that brings you back in time. Enjoy all of the hidden beauties this park has, along with a picnic lunch.
  • After a morning in Zadar’s beautiful Old Town, head to Split for a guided tour of the city’s majestic cathedral that rises from within the 1700-year-old walls of Dioclentian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visit an oyster farm and learn how they are grown, farmed, and best served.
  • Embark on a day trip to Mostar. Mostar is a city in Southern Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is known for the iconic Stari Most, a reconstructed medieval arched bridge. Upon arrival explore the bright, vibrant alleys of shops and markets, and visit the Old Bridge Museum to explore the significant history of the Stari Most.
  • Explore the famous city of Dubrovnik. This Maritime Republic is surrounded by stone walls and marble streets and is rich in Croatian heritage. Enjoy typical Dalmatian cuisine for lunch. Explore the old port by foot and take the ferry over to Lokrum Island. On the island, witness the beauty of the botanical gardens and a benedictine monastery that are so well hidden from the rest of the world.
