Norway is a leader in connecting sustainability with daily life—whether through clean energy, innovative waste systems, or traditions rooted in nature. On this journey, you’ll kayak in fjords, cook with foraged food, join climate dialogues, and meet communities shaping a greener future. From Sámi traditions to urban innovation, you’ll explore how the environment and economy overlap—and imagine new ways forward.
Considerations: Swim tests required for participation in water activities. Willingness to use public transportation is expected.
Depart from home for Oslo, with one layover on your way to Norway.
Arrive in Oslo and transfer to your hotel. Settle in, review global pillars, and kick off the week with your driving question.
Use Oslo’s innovative electric transit system to explore the city’s push toward becoming emissions-free. Visit Losæter, a community garden oasis, where you’ll get hands-on with gardening and urban farming. At the Oslo Climate House, take part in an interactive exhibition and a guided dialogue on climate solutions.
Board an electric boat to sail Oslofjord, learning about biodiversity and conservation efforts. Then grab a paddle for a kayak or stand-up paddleboard clean-up, joining a grassroots initiative that removes plastic from local waters.
Step into Viking history at The Viking Planet, where VR and interactive exhibits bring ancient stories to life. In the afternoon, tour renewable energy and waste-to-biogas facilities to see how Oslo transforms household waste into clean fuel for buses and trucks.
Travel to Elverum to explore Norway’s forest heritage at the Norwegian Forest Museum. Try outdoor education activities like timber floating or traditional logging. Visit the Glomdal Museum’s open-air site, where centuries of building and living traditions come to life. Overnight in Elverum.
Spend the morning at Sander Nordstuen Gård Farm, where you’ll dig into sustainable agriculture through a farm-to-table workshop, gardening, or permaculture activities. Return to Oslo in the evening and relax in a harbor sauna overlooking the bay.
Learn to forage wild plants and mushrooms, then cook your finds in a local dish. Experiment with natural plant dyes in a creative workshop. In the afternoon, head to Recouture, a redesign and sewing studio, to upcycle textiles into your own custom creation. End the day with dinner at a plant-based restaurant highlighting circular food systems.
Travel outside Oslo for a cultural exchange with Sámi hosts: hear storytelling around a fire, taste traditional foods, practice lasso throwing, and meet reindeer. Back in Oslo, tour the Vulkan neighborhood, a cutting-edge urban renewal project powered by green energy and rooftop gardens. End with a farewell dinner at an organic farm-to-table restaurant.
Transfer to the airport and board your flight home, bringing back insights on how the environment and economy intersect—and how innovation and tradition can work hand in hand.
