What do equality and empowerment mean for women around the world?

Program Summary

Rwanda is one of the world’s leaders in gender equality, with women holding the majority of seats in parliament and playing central roles in rebuilding the nation after genocide. On this journey, you’ll meet entrepreneurs, artists, farmers, and activists whose work demonstrates resilience and empowerment. Through conversations, workshops, and cultural exchanges, you’ll explore how equality is defined and practiced in Rwanda—and reflect on what empowerment means in different contexts around the world.

Considerations: Swim tests required for participation in water activities. There may be challenging air quality for those with respiratory considerations. Program discussions will address the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, which may be sensitive or emotional for some students.
