Insight programs are intentionally designed around shared leadership. Facilitators guide learning and reflection, local guides ground experiences in place-based knowledge and lived experience, and teacher chaperones provide continuity, care, and deep understanding of their students.
This team-based approach ensures students are supported academically, culturally, and personally—before, during, and throughout the program.
Insight facilitators are responsible for creating the conditions in which meaningful learning can happen. They help students engage with place, people, and complexity—asking the right questions, encouraging reflection, and supporting students as they navigate unfamiliar environments.
Drawing on Insight’s educational model, facilitators use experience as the starting point for learning. Through daily check-ins, guided discussions, and reflective debriefs, they help students connect what they see and do to broader themes, global challenges, and their own perspectives. Over time, facilitators intentionally step back, allowing students to take greater ownership of their learning.
Facilitators support students as learning unfolds moment by moment. Whether navigating a community partnership, responding to unexpected challenges, or unpacking a complex conversation, they help students pause, reflect, and make meaning of their experiences.
Facilitators also play a key role in group care and wellbeing. They are attuned to
group dynamics, student needs, and local context—balancing learning goals with safety, inclusivity, and respect for host communities.
Distinct Roles, Complementary Expertise
Many education travel programs rely on a single leader in the field. Insight takes a different approach.
Local guides are experts in place. They bring deep knowledge of local culture, customs, language, infrastructure, and logistics. They manage on-the-ground details and help students understand the context of where they are—answering questions about daily life, history, and local systems.
Insight Global Facilitators focus on students and learning. They are trained specifically to work with student groups and to uphold Insight’s educational, safety, and care standards. Facilitators frame each day with intention, guide reflection and discussion, and help students connect experience to program themes, including the Sustainable Development Goals. They act as a consistent point of connection between students, chaperones, local guides, and Insight—supporting logistics, navigating changes, and ensuring the program unfolds as designed.
Together, these roles are complementary. Local guides lead with place-based expertise, while facilitators work—often behind the scenes—to ensure the experience is cohesive, educational, and well-supported.
