LGBTQ+ inclusion & support

An approach grounded in preparation, awareness, and care.

Navigating diverse cultural contexts

LGBTQ+ identities are understood and expressed differently around the world. Some destinations may be less openly affirming than others, and we believe it’s important to approach these realities with honesty, preparation, and care. Understanding local context helps students move through the world with awareness and respect.

Learning through engagement, not avoidance

Engaging thoughtfully with different cultural perspectives allows students to participate in meaningful conversations about identity, inclusion, and human rights. These experiences can challenge assumptions, foster empathy, and encourage critical reflection without placing students in unsafe or unsupported situations.

Building resilience and global awareness

Navigating unfamiliar or less welcoming environments can help students develop resilience, adaptability, and confidence. With the right support, these experiences can strengthen students’ sense of self and deepen their understanding of what it means to be a global citizen.

Safety as a non-negotiable

While we believe in the value of global engagement, student safety and well-being always come first. Program design, partner selection, accommodations, and activities are approached with care to ensure students are supported, informed, and not placed at unnecessary risk.

Pre-departure preparation

We provide pre-departure guidance that addresses LGBTQ+ rights, laws, and cultural norms in each destination, helping students understand what to expect and how to navigate potential challenges.

Cultural context and sensitivity guidance

Students receive destination-specific guidance on language, behavior, and cultural attitudes related to LGBTQ+ identities, supporting respectful engagement and personal safety.

Dedicated support contacts

We help connect students to support systems offering guidance, advocacy, and support when questions or concerns arise.

Inclusive accommodations and rooming

We prioritize safe and inclusive accommodations and offer flexible rooming options that reflect students’ gender identities and preferences whenever possible.

Access to local resources

Where available, we share information about local LGBTQ+ organizations, community spaces, and support networks that students may choose to engage with.

Emergency planning and ongoing feedback

We consider LGBTQ+ needs in emergency planning and encourage open communication before, during, and after programs to continually improve how we support students.
